A3 2019

Since its inception in 2017, the Global Liver Institute’s Advanced Advocacy Academy (A3) has empowered and trained liver patients, caregivers, and family members by providing them with essential information, skills, and opportunities on becoming effective advocates for liver health.

With over 400 alumni spanning 39 states and 19 countries, A3 participants are at the forefront of the fight for improving liver health for all, making a significant impact in their communities and beyond.

The A3 program is built upon five foundational courses that cover critical topics such as liver literacy, media and storytelling, clinical research and development, navigating healthcare and coverage, and understanding healthcare policy, ensuring participants can drive meaningful change in their communities.

A3 Alumni: Catalysts for Change in Liver Health Advocacy

Graduates of the Advanced Advocacy Academy (A3) go on to make a significant impact in liver health advocacy through various pathways, including:

  • Influencing national and global liver health policies as active members of the Liver Action Network (LAN).
  • Advocating for legislative reforms on state and federal levels, driving the passage of crucial laws that enhance liver health initiatives
  • Amplifying the patient voice at Externally Led-Patient Focused Drug Development (EL-PFDD) Meetings, shaping the future of liver disease treatments through their experiences.
  •  Founding and leading impactful non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting liver health initiatives and improving patient outcomes.
  • Establishing and managing peer to peer support opportunities that provide critical resources and support for those impacted by liver disease.
  • Empowering their communities by providing liver health education and driving prevention efforts.
  •  Designing and advising clinical trial and research design to ensure that patient and caregiver perspectives are prioritized and captured within research.
  • Serving on scientific organization committees, guiding the direction of liver disease research and advocacy at the highest levels.
