Bringing Rare Liver Diseases into the Classroom
With more than 7,000 known rare diseases, it is no surprise that many are often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed. We can change that, using one of the most powerful tools: Education.
The more people know about rare diseases, the better equipped they are to recognize symptoms, spark conversations, and advocate for change. This is why the Global Liver Institute launched the Rare Science Fairs Program–an initiative designed to introduce rare liver diseases into high schools, created by a certified K-12 Educator, using National Education STEM Standards, and allowing students to connect with key opinion leaders in the field to transfer information. This grassroots initiative allows students to become teachers, creating a ripple effect throughout their community.
Rare Liver Diseases Month takes over Mississippi!
With the support of incredible patient advocacy groups, we partnered with Pine Grove School and Ripley High School to host our first student-led Rare Science Fair! Students researched rare liver diseases, highlighting patient challenges, treatments, and policy advancements—then took the lead in educating their peers and community, making rare diseases impossible to ignore.
