Global Liver Institute (GLI) launched the Liver Health is Public Health initiative in response to the fact that liver conditions remain misunderstood, mischaracterized, and stigmatized, leading to underdiagnosis, undertreatment, and unnecessarily poor outcomes worldwide. The more we look into global liver health, the more we see common trends, not only regarding the epidemiological data, but also the common unpreparedness of national health systems to face a “tidal wave” of liver diseases. This global initiative addresses ongoing challenges to shift the conversation on liver health through continuous interaction with international advocacy groups, doctors, health care practitioners, liver patient advocates, ambassadors, and more. Through this effort, GLI will propel policymakers to move the needle toward collective action for better liver health.

RESOURCES:
The Global State of Liver Health
Drawing from a wealth of studies and the perspectives of community experts, this report defines and analyzes the landscape of liver health around the world. It is both a foundational resource and a rallying cry for clinicians, policymakers, and other community leaders to fight liver disease.
Best Practices in Liver Health Policy
This report aims to address a central question of the initiative — how to practically implement the innovative screening and treatment tools in real communities for the benefit of liver health. Featuring case studies from multiple countries across the world, the report demonstrates the integration of liver health into clinical pathways and broader health frameworks.
Worldwide Involvement
GLI advances the Liver Health is Public Health message and movement through partnerships and presentations around the globe. We bridge the gap between liver patients, scientific societies, and policymakers. We prepare the ground for a collaborative effort that will positively impact the patients’ lives.
