WASHINGTON, D.C.—Global Liver Institute (GLI) is convening the fourth International NASH Day on June 10, 2021, at 2 a.m. Eastern, United States. Eight virtual panels of international experts will shed light on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the advanced form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and the actions people can take to address this life-threatening disease worldwide. Certain panels will air in encore presentations to accommodate as many participants in partner countries worldwide.
This year’s theme is NASH Around the World. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the conditions that accompany NASH, with quarantine-imposed sedentary lifestyles, the disruption of school-provided meals for children, and the loss of the income to buy healthful food all increasing risks for obesity and diabetes. NASH awareness is more important than ever, as many countries emerge from the pandemic, with individuals resuming routine medical care, dining out, and exercise routines. “The time has never been better for NASH education, prevention, and screening,” said Donna Cryer, GLI president and CEO.
International NASH Day 2021 will be broadcast in English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Hindi.
Panels will cover:
- NASH as a Global Public Health Challenge
- NASH and Liver Cancer
- NASH and Obesity
- Pediatric NASH
- NASH and Diabetes
- Beyond the Biopsy: Innovations in Diagnostics
- NASH in Lean Individuals
- NASH: A Conversation in the Black Community
