GLOBAL LIVER INSTITUTE
About the Program

Since 2017, Global Liver Institute’s Advanced Advocacy Academy (A3) has connected liver patients, caregivers, and family members with the information, skills, and opportunities they need to effectively advocate for liver health.
There are more than 300 alumni of GLI’s Advanced Advocacy Academy who fight for liver health in 39+ states and 17 countries. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 A3 Symposiums were exclusively online. The virtual experiences, hosted with the aid of relevant and highly accessible technology, were constructed to introduce participants to a broad set of advocacy areas in which they could focus their future endeavors as an effective patient advocate. These areas included:
Media
Storytelling
Research and development
Clinical trials
State and federal legislation
Support
Self care
Clinical trials

A3 alumni go on to effect change in a variety of ways, such as:
- Advocating on state and federal Capitol Hills, with bills becoming laws
- Speaking in Externally Led-Patient Focused Drug Development (EL-PFDD) Meetings
- Forming and leading non-profit organizations
- Launching support groups
- Joining GLI’s Liver Action Network (LAN)
- Increasing prevention and awareness in their communities
- Designing and advising clinical trial protocols
- Serving on scientific organization committees
